CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter presents the conclusions which summarize the major findings discussed in the previous chapter and the suggestions related to the
implementation of worksheets by lecturers in teaching-learning process.
A. Conclusions
The objectives of this study were to find out students’ and lecturers’ perception on the use of worksheets in teaching-learning process and how
worksheets enhance students’ independence in learning. Therefore, there will be three formulated problems to be concluded.
1. Students’ Perception on the Use of Worksheets in Learning Process
Based on the data gathered, both from the questionnaire and the interview, the majority of students of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata
Dharma University in 2007 and 2008 batches had positive perception on the use of worksheets in learning process. However, students’ interest and positive
perception were not followed with positive behavior responses. External and internal factors could burden the students to achieve the expected learning goals
that were to understand the material better and to make students become more independent.
Most of the students had positive awareness on the purpose of worksheet. They agreed that worksheets helped them to get, to memorize, and to understand
85 the important points of the material. Students also generally made use the
worksheets for the test preparation because according to the students, worksheets had already contained important points of a certain material and most lecturers
used similar questions for the test. Other purposes of worksheets were that worksheets could help them study independently and could help students to
evaluate their abilities, progress and understanding. On the discussion about the validity of worksheets, students admitted that
the worksheets covered content validity since most students admitted that the content of the worksheets really represented the material they had to study.
Nevertheless, based on the interview, most participants admitted that sometimes they could not find the information from the textbook easily. The good face
validity of worksheets could be seen from students’ confession on the clarity of the instruction.
In the discussion of the implementation of worksheets, most students admitted to be interested in the use of worksheets in learning process regarding to
the benefits. Nevertheless, fewer students were in high motivation to work on the worksheets moreover if it was individually. Less than a half of participants
admitted to always do the worksheets because of the difficult material, laziness and limited time. Group work was a way to help them completing the worksheets
effectively and learning to socialize with others. Students thought that all worksheets formats were good since each of them had its strengths in helping
students to achieve the learning goals. To evaluate their works, in general, the students preferred class discussion and scoring process. It was admitted that class
86 discussion enabled students to participate in the discussion and get the correct
answer, while scoring helped them to measure their comprehension on the material.
2. Lecturers’ Perception on the Use of Worksheets in Teaching Process
