2. Lecturers’ Perception on the Use of Worksheets in Teaching Process

Dealing with the use of worksheets in teaching process that the lecturers had, the lecturers had good perception on the worksheets. According to them, worksheets had benefits both for the students and for the lecturers. For students, worksheets were beneficial: a To sharpen students’ self-discipline that may bring positive habit for their learning and life. b To make students be less dependent to the lecturers and friends in learning, c To develop students’ team-working and social skills since independence did not mean working individually, d To understand the material better because the students were expected to read the material before the discussion, and e To help students self-evaluating their ability and responsibility in learning, While for the lecturers, worksheets could save time and energy when delivering the material orally. To help students achieved the goals the lecturers focused more on the content validity of the worksheets; that was by including the important points to study into the worksheets. Another supportive aspect was the choice of worksheets formats in which most lecturers used the combination of question- 87 summary format because this format helped the lecturers to measure students’ understanding and to take solutions for the problem. Submission, scoring and class discussion were cycle processes to evaluate students’ work.

3. How Worksheets Enhance Students’ Independence in Learning

From the findings, it was concluded that worksheets could be used as media to enhance students’ independence in learning since worksheets have values to form students into the independent ones. The significances of worksheets for independent learning were: a To form student’s habit to become less dependent to others in making decision and taking the actions initiative and proactive, b To sharpen student’s individual and social competencies through individual work and group work, c To grow student’s maturity dealing with taking responsibility for every decision and action, especially for the learning, d To dig out student’s potentials in reading, presenting, leadership skill, and entrepreneur skills, e To foster student’s self-evaluation ability so they can see their weaknesses and strengths inside.
