2. Students’ Perception on the Validity of Worksheet

In this research, the validity of worksheet is crucial to find out to see how it contributes to students’ motivation and perception in the positive learning process. Therefore, researcher employed questionnaire and interview to reveal students’ perception on the validity of worksheet. The discussion of worksheet validity will be divided into two main parts namely content validity and face validity. The following is the description of students’ perception on the validity of worksheet.

a. Students’ Perception Based on the Questionnaire

From the questionnaire, the result shows that from the statement about the content of worksheet whether it includes important sub-materials material, 18 of participants strongly agreed with the statement, 57.2 of them agreed, 22.5 of them doubted and 1.4 disagreed with the statement. The level of agreement to this statement was 76.0 which is considered fairly high. The researcher found that the level of doubtfulness and disagreement to the content validity of worksheet were relatively high reaching 23.9, so he was curious to find the further information from the participants from the interview to support the findings. How students perceived on the face validity of worksheet dealing with the instruction was interesting to find out. The result from questionnaire shows that 63.8 of participants agreed the clear and understandable instruction on the worksheets given by their lecturers. In other hand, the rate of doubt reached 47 31.2 and the disagreement reached 5.0 of the total participants. This was interesting findings to follow up and dig out through the interview.

b. Students’ Perception Based on the Interview

Finding out the fairly high percentages of the content and face validity of the worksheets, the researcher proposed questions dealing with those two major parts in the validity of worksheet to get more data. The researcher found that three interviewees, namely participant A, B, and E are fully agreed that the content of worksheet covers all material that was being or going to be discussed. The rest of participants, namely participant C, D, F, G and H, doubted the statement that the content of worksheets covers all material being discussed. Participant D and H added that sometimes the material in the worksheet couldn’t be found in the textbook. Nevertheless, participants D could see it positively by stating that this could also encourage students to study seriously. Participant F also gave further opinion. She argued that she sometimes found unimportant points of material which were included on the worksheets, and it made herhim getting confused with the material. In this research, face validity of worksheet would be measured from the instruction on the worksheets. The interview tried to reveal students’ opinion responding to the result of the questionnaire. Based on the interview, three participants, namely participant C, F, and G, argued that the instructions on the worksheets which were given by the lecturers were simple, clear and understandable since it mostly asked students to mention and explain certain discussions. Participant B, D, E, and H argued that the clarity of the instruction 48 depends on the lecturers. To add, it was not a big problem as long as they could understand what was expected from the questions by themselves and could ask their friends for clearer instructions. Nonetheless, there was one participant, namely participant A, who argued against the other participants. Participant A stated that the instructions on the worksheets were mostly not clear. In relation to the clarity of the instructions, all participants assumed that if necessary, it was important for the lecturers to restate the instructions after distributing the worksheet in the case the instructions were complicated. Nevertheless, the participants would try to understand the instructions first before asking to their lecturers. It was a good start for being independent.
