59 Based on Stages of the teachinglearning cycle by Susan Feez, the writer
chooses three main cycles as the learning style in this study. The three cycles are Building Knowledge of the Field, Modelling of the text
and Independent construction of the Text
.
1 BUILDING
KNOWLEDGE OF THE FIELD
2
MODELING OF THE TEXT
3 INDEPENDENT
CONSTRUCTION OF THE TEXT
Figure 8. Stages of the learning cycle
a. Building Knowledge of the Field
In this study, the form of the tasks of this stage describe in the form of context-building activities. It includes presenting the story and context pictures.
b. Modeling of the Text
The tasks in this stage includes sorting, matching and labeling activities, for example, sorting sets of texts, sequencing jumbled stages, labeling stages, etc.
c. Independent Construction of the Text
60 In this stage reading tasks include comprehension activities in response to
written material such as performing a task, sequencing pictures, numbering, ticking or underlining material on a worksheet, and answering questions.
6. Teaching Learning activities
In this study, the teaching learning activities in each unit consist of three stages. They are:
a. Building Knowledge of The Field This stage proposes to draw students’ attention to the topic given and to
give a clear description of what they are going to learn. In this study, the “warming-up” activity includes reading poems, conversation text or short reading
text and questions. b. Modeling of The Text
This stage aims to enlighten the structural pattern of the type text. Moreover, the form of the tasks of this stage describe sorting, matching and
labeling activities, for example, sorting sets of texts, sequencing jumbled stages, labeling stages, etc.
c. Independent Construction of The Text This stage aims to stimulate the students to work independently with the
text. In this stage reading tasks include comprehension activities in response to written material such as performing a task, sequencing pictures, numbering,
ticking or underlining material on a worksheet, and answering questions.
