55 fluently. Therefore, the writer concluded that the learners were in the beginner level. Moreover, the writer found that they had some obstacles in learning speaking. They felt that they had lack of vocabulary mastery. It made them confused when they tried to speak because they did not know the words. The writer also found that one of them was shy to speak English in front of people. Besides, the writer found that one respondent did not have partner to practice speaking. Concerning their expectations of the teaching learning activities, the learners expected fun teachinglearning activities. Learning speaking through games would make the teachinglearning activity interesting. They also hoped that the teacher would give them plenty opportunities to practice speaking. Moreover, the writer found that they liked to learn speaking in group. Concerning their opinions about eight meeting in a mini course for homestay hosts, they said that eight meetings were enough for a mini course.

2. Determining Goals, Topics, and General Purposes

In this study, the goal was considered as standard competency. The goal was set based on the result of the needs survey. Having determined the goal, the writer listed the topics to be learnt. Then, the general purposes were specified. The general purposes were stated as basic competences. Goal is the expected behavior of the learners after they have finished learning English using the designed materials. The only goal of this design is at the end of the course, the learners are able to communicate with foreign guests using simple English in the context of serving homestay guests. After organizing the topics, the writer set the general purposes based on the goal. The writer provides the general purposes in the table below.
