Avoiding the Silence when Talking

The next couple, Sri and Maria, also applied the expression of changing the topic of conversation. The expression is intended to know more information about something. Then, Maria tried to change the topic by giving the question How about siomay?. This expression is lead to a new topic in order to get to know Sri’s reason for the other food with the peanut sauce, especially Siomay. Similarly, the other couple, Al and Esti, expressed changing the topic of conversation. The expression is to get more information about the acquaintance. The conversation can be explored in the following excerpt. Excerpt 9 Context : Esti and Al introduced themselves, and they asked about the class they had chosen and the origin. 4. Agreeing on Something

This communicative function aims to state that one agrees with o thers’ opinion. The finding shows that all graduate students in each couple produced the expression of agreeing on something differently. It has been found that there were 30 utterances presenting 3.0. The first finding shows that Socrates and Mello expressed agreeing on something in conversation. The following is the example of the conversation. It can be inferred that Mello also had the same thought as Socrates did.
