From the data above, it can be seen that suffix –ity is indicate the meaning of an action which is related to the base. If suffix –ity is attached to the word ‘active’, it becomes ‘activity’ that indicates the meaning of ‘the state of being active or lively’. And, if suffix –ity is attached to the word ‘turgid’, it becomes ‘turgidity’ that indicates the meaning of ‘the state of difficulty to understand’.

5.1.17 Suffix –ic

a. Form • It is found that suffix –ic can be attached to the base which is ended by vowel phoneme. e.g.: hero + -ic Æ heroic semite + -ic Æ semitic • It is found that suffix –ic can be attached to the base which is ended with consonant phoneme. e.g.: poet + -ic Æ poetic acid + -ic Æ acidic • It is found that suffix –ic can not be attached to the base which is ended with semivowel phoneme. • It is found that suffix –ic can not be attached to the base which is ended with diphthong phoneme. • It is found that suffix –ic can not be attached to the base which is ended with cluster phoneme. The word ‘hero’, ‘poet’, ‘geology’, and ‘Semite’ are included in noun. If suffix –ic is attached to them, they become ‘heroic’, ‘poetic’, ‘geologic’, and ‘Semitic’. c. Function The function of suffix –ic is to form adjective from noun. e.g.: hero n + -ic Æ heroic adj acid n + -ic Æ acidic adj From the data above, the function of suffix –ic is to form adjective from noun.
