Transposition and
Addition
In the translation above, there are also two translation strategies that are applied. The strategies are transposition and addition. Bisa ditambahkan irisan
tomat hijau is translated into “sliced green tomatoes can be added” in the TL. The
translator changes the original structure of the SL in order to get an equivalent translation in the TL. In the SL, irisan tomat hijau, as the object, is placed after
the verb. Meanwhile in the TL, “sliced green tomatoes” as the object, is placed before the verb.
Besides, the application of transposition also can be seen from the noun phrase irisan tomat hijau
which is translated into “sliced green tomatoes” in the TL. The position of tomat in the SL is changed in the TL. In the SL, tomat as the
noun is placed before the modifier hijau . In the TL, “tomatoes” as the noun is
placed after the modifier “green”. In this translation, the translator also adds some extra information which
does not exist in the SL. The extra information is “to increase the level of
sourness”. This addition information creates clarity in the meaning. This extra information is the application of addition.
