CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS
This chapter presents the conclusions and suggestions. In the first part, the researcher presents the conclusions based on the result of the research and
research findings. In the second part, the researcher provides some suggestions for the English lecturers and future researchers who want to use or develop the
designed materials or conduct the same research.
A. Conclusions
This research is conducted to answer the research problems stated in the first chapter: a. how is English instructional speaking materials based on
Ignatian Pedagogy for Theology Study Program students designed? b. what does the English speaking instructional materials based on Ignatian Pedagogy for
Theology Study Program students look like? In order to answer the first research problem, the researcher employed two design models, they were Kemp’s
instructional design model and Research and Development RD. There were five steps implemented as the framework in this research. They were 1 research
and information collecting identifying the learners’ characteristics, lacks, needs, 2 planning determining the learning goals, topics, and general objectives,
specifying the learning objectives, listing the subject contents, 3 develop preliminary form of product selecting teaching and learning activities, 4
preliminary field testing evaluating the designed materials, 5 main product revision revising the designed materials.
56 After developing the designed materials, the researcher conducted expert
validation by distributing questionnaire. The participants of the expert validation were five lecturers of English Language Education Study Program of Sanata
Dharma University. The feedback, comments and suggestions given by the lecturers were expected to improve the designed materials. The result of the
questionnaire was analyzed in the form of central tendency. The mean of the designed materials was 3.7. Therefore, the researcher concluded generally that the
participants agreed that the designed material were appropriate for facilitating the students of Theology Study Program to improve their speaking skills, but the
designed materials still needed to be revised. Therefore, the feedback, comments, and suggestions from the lecturers were implemented in order to revise and make
better designed materials. To answer the second research problem, the researcher presented the final
version of the speaking designed model. The designed materials consisted of four units. They are Nice To Meet You Unit 1, May I Help You? Unit 2, Where Am
I? Unit 3, and What Do You Think? Unit 4. Each unit is for 2 x 100 minutes. Moreover, there are five cycle in the designed materials since the designed
materials was collaborated with the Ignatian Pedagogy cycle, namely context of learning, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation. The final version of the
designed materials was presented in the Appendix G.

B. Suggestions
In this part, the researcher provides some suggestions for the lecturers or other researchers who want to use the designed materials or who are interested in
conducting the same research. The following are the suggestions: 1.
The suggestions for English lecturers
It is suggested that the English lecturers implement the Ignatian Pedagogy model in their teaching and learning process. Moreover, it is suggested for them to
learn about the details of each cycle of Ignatian Pedagogy and pay attention to the students’ characteristics. The teaching and learning activities, topics, and tasks can
be modified by the lecturers so that the students can meet the goal.
2. The suggestions for the future researchers
It is suggested the future researchers use Ignatian Pedagogy to design speaking materials. Moreover, the researchers should recognize the students’
characteristics and needs. It is also recommended for the future researchers to develop more interesting and appropriate designed materials. The researcher also
recommends the future researchers to use more technology such as computers or multimedia devices as the teaching and learning media so that the students will be
more enthusiastic to learn.
