necessary to remove overburden and other waste materials to access coal which can be
extracted economically.
The process
of mining overburden and waste materials is
referred to as stripping activity. Stripping costs incurred in the development of a mine
before production commences are capitalised as part of the cost of developing the mine.
The
capitalised costs
are subsequently
amortised using the straight line method over the lesser of the life of mine “LOM”, the
reserve, or the CCoW or IUP term.
