2 Lacks
Lacks refer to the gaps between what the learner already knows and the necessities. The students’ lacks are described in the table below.

d. very good Based on Table 4.2. above, the students face some difficulties in reading
their English textbook. 85.29 of students felt that it was difficult to deal with the unknown vocabularies in the text. Ten students found that it was difficult to
understand the text due to complexity of the text’s structure. Fourteen students felt that they faced difficulty in reading textbook since they could not read rapidly.
Moreover, it can be seen that more than half of all students thought that their ability in understanding vocabularies is poor. It can be said that the students’
proficiency level of vocabulary was not enough to meet their target situation. The data above were supported by the interview. Below is the result of the interview.

R : Kalau menurut Bapak sendiri bagaimana kemampuan reading mahasiswa?In your own opinion, how is the students’ reading
ability? T : Sebagian sudah lumayan bagus, tapi sebagian besar mengalami
kesulitan dalam memahami isinya soalnya mereka tidak tahu tentang kosakata tertentu. Some students have a good reading
ability. But most of them are still face difficulty in understanding the text since they do not know about certain vocabularies.

3 Wants
Wants related to the students’ expectation after accomplishing their study. Table 4.3. shows that almost all of the students wanted to learn the
definition, the meaning, the part of speech, and the pronunciation of the words.
