1. The Inaccurate Translation of English Plural Forms
The first analysis lies on the inaccuracy in translating plural forms into singular in Deadly Game and Permainan Maut. There are 31 phrases and clauses
that are found translated inaccurately. In the analysis, the writer also provides the source text and target text that contain the inaccuracy.
No. Source Text Target Text
1. …, reading
one of his comics for
the umpteenth time,…
…, sedang membaca komik. Komik itu telah ia baca untuk kesekian
kalinya.
The above sentence is said to be inaccurately translated seen from the
phrase one of his comics which is translated into komik. The translator changes the meaning of the phrase because the phrase one of his comics shows that Jake has
many comics and he is reading one of them, while the translator means to say that Jake has only one comic and he is reading it. The existence of the plural form one
of his comics also describes the characteristics of Jakes in which he prefers
enjoying himself by reading all his comics again and again instead of getting intimate with his family.
