Need Analysis Data Analysis Technique

response consisting of strongly agree SA, agree A, Not Sure NS, disagree D, and strongly disagree SD.

E. Data Analysis Technique

There were three kinds of data that would be collected in this study. First, the students’ need that was collected with observation, the opinion of the students in learning reading with Interactive PowerPoint collected using questionnaire. Second, the effectiveness of using Interactive PowerPoint for reading comprehension collected with tests.

1. Need Analysis

To do need analysis, the calculation of the collected data would be achieved as follows. The raw data would be counted into the mean. Where, M = the mean x = the total number of students who chose the certain answer N= the total number of the students. The need analysis questionnaire employed multiple choices questions with five answers as the option. Each answer contained of certain score. The following table displays the rules of answer weight Standard. Table 3.5 The Rules of Answer Weight Standard No Criteria Score M = Ʃ a Very easyimportantinterestinginterested, Strongly Agree 5 b EasyImportantInterestingInterestedAgree 4 c Average 3 d HardUnimportantUninterestingUninterested, Disagree 2 e Very hardunimportantuninterestinguninterested, Strongly Disagree 1 The score, then, was interpreted and the criteria are presented in the following table. Table 3.6 The Criteria of the Score No Score Criteria 1 3.50 – 5.00 Very High 2 3.00 – 3.49 High 3 2.50 – 2.99 Adequate 4 0.00 – 2.49 Low The total maximum point of was 5. Best 1980 described that the response rate of 70 percent out of the total maximum point was considered as very high. Therefore, the range score was 3.50 – 5.00. The response rate of 60 percent out of the total maximum point was considered as high. Thus, the range point was 3.00 – 3.49. The response rate of 50 percent out of the maximum point was considered as adequate. Then, the range score was 2.50 – 2.99. Then, the rest of it was considered as low, in which the response rate below 50 percent out of the maximum point. The range score was 0.00 – 2.49. The instruments to collect data about students’ need were summed up into the following table. Table 3.7 The Result of Need Analysis Questionnaire Template Question Response Mean Criteria Table 3.7 is the template for describing the result of need analysis questionnaire. Four aspects are included in the template such as question, response, mean and interpretation.
