B. Research Participants

This study required three groups of participant including participants for need analysis, participants for design validation, and participants for evaluation.

1. Participants for Need Analysis

The participants for need analysis were students and teacher of SMP Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta grade seven. The students were all seven graders in SMP Pangudi Luhur from class 7A to 7G. The questionnaire for collecting data about students’ need was distributed to 237 students. The questionnaire consisted of 15 multiple choices questions. The questions dealt with students’ experience in studying English in classroom, the need of English and English skill, students’ and technology, students interest and expectation on designed learning model. For further information dealing with students’ need, the researcher conducted an interview with the English teacher in SMP Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta. The researcher prepared about 12 questions to the teacher consisting of teacher’s teaching experience, students’ competence, students’ characteristics, teaching and learning process, teaching and learning obstacles, teachers’ solution, students’ need, integration of technology with teaching, and teachers’ expectation on the designed learning model.

2. Participants for Preliminary Field Testing

The participants in this stage consist of an English teacher of SMP Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta and lecturers from Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa University and Sanata Dharma University. The researcher discussed the curriculum and the syllabus employed in the school with the teachers from SMP Pangudi Luhur Yogyakarta. Besides, the researcher also involved some lecturers of English Language Department. Those participants, teachers and lecturers, are regarded as the experts in theories application. Those theories are dealing with teaching and learning in Junior High School, Reading skill development in English, teaching English through technology, and expert in technology. In addition, those experts also helped the researcher in designing the learning model by giving suggestions and validating the design as well. To validate the designed learning model, some questionnaire was distributed to the experts. The questionnaire consisted of two parts, close ended and open ended questions. The first part was 20 close ended questions with Likert Scale. The second part was 4 open ended questions dealing with the experts’ opinion and suggestion for the designed learning model improvement.
