1. Interacting and negotiating meaning
The first pedagogical aspect PA1 was learners have the opportunity to interact and negotiate meaning. This pedagogical aspect appeared in the sentence
number 23. The users opened the Presentation Section to before attempting the Exercise Section 4.33. The materials presented in Presentation Section were
designed based on the syllabus analysis. This idea was supported by the students’ statement below:
“Almost all materials were in line with the topics that were taught at the classroom. For example, time and date are being leant now at class, jobs and
professions are listed in the book, people around me such as family have been taught at classroom, including introducing me.”
See appendix 14, Q2, S-Di To measure the students’ interaction and negotiation meaning, teacher should
observe the students contribution during the authentic task and interaction with the authentic audience Egbert, 1999. The concept of classroom interaction in this
study was reflected in the classroom interactions classified by Rossi, Van Rensburg, Beer, Clark, Danaher Harreveld 2013 consisting of learner-content,
learner-learner, and interactions. Learner-content interaction was reflected in the interaction between the learners and the authentic task. Learner-learner interaction
was reflected in the interaction between the learner and the authentic audiences. Learner-teacher interaction was reflected in which the teacher observing the
learners’ participation in the classroom activity. The interaction between the learner and the Interactive PowerPoint
Application IPA was the description of learner-content interaction. The idea of learner-content interaction was in line with the concept of learner-computer
interaction by Chapelle 2003. Learner-computer interaction was a means of
receiving form of enchaned input such as pedagogical materials. At this point, the students processed the negotiation of meaning through the interaction. Such
interaction happened in this study when the students were engaging with the material in the Presentation Section, applying the material in Check Your
Understanding Section, and practicing their reading skills in Exercises Section.
