31. Instrumen Keuangan Derivatif
In addition to the above, related parties charge expenditures at cost incurred on the Company’s behalf.
31. Derivative Financial Instruments
The Company is exposed to price risk due to changes in the future prices of its anticipated High Sulphur Fuel Oil HSFO purchases.
As a result, the Company utilizes HSFO swap contracts to fix the future price of a portion of the Company’s anticipated HSFO
purchases expected to occur within the next year. Under such contracts, the Company receives or makes payments based on
the difference between a fixed and a floating price for HSFO. Where these derivatives qualify as hedges of future cash flows,
the effective portion of the changes in fair value is temporarily recorded in Other Comprehensive Income, then recognized
in the Statements of Earnings when the hedged item affects earnings. The fair value of the Company’s HSFO swap contracts
are calculated based on the forward swap prices for Singapore Fuel Oil 180.
As at December 31, 2005 the Company had futures contracts with financial institutions to purchase 29,940 tonnes of HSFO
in 2006. Under these futures contracts, with Citibank N.A. and Morgan Stanley Capital Group Inc., the Company pays a fixed
price averaging 291.61 full amount per tonne in 2006. The contracts require net settlement. No fair value of the HSFO swap
contracts was recorded in Other Receivables as at December 31, 2005 as management considers that the derivative transactions
were not effective hedges under the relevant accounting standard 2004 - unrealized gain of 2.1 million.
