MALAY LANGUAGE TO BAHASA INDONESIA

In 1928, young people in Indonesia agreed that the language of unity in

Indonesia is Bahasa Indonesia through the Sumpah Pemuda. But actually, the

name of the Malay language to Bahasa Indonesia was only an aspiration at the

time not consensus. Because when it's a lot of fighters do not agree if the

declaration of independence in Indonesian and Malay language called Bahasa N

In the history of Sumatra, Riau Sultanate precisely in the past began to develop a range of standard language in a formal ceremony that is Formal Language of

language. 89 So, one more role that Malay language had was as the medium for education.

In large countries, the national language are often closely related to the big traditions. 90 Thus, the language which have big influence to make the national language should has a great tradition. In fact in Indonesia there are two languages that have a great tradition that are Javanese and Malay. Java language

is more superior with older traditions than Malay, but the problem is Malay

language has more influential for shaping Bahasa Indonesia. 85 91

Malay language appears to be more acceptable as a language of unity as it meets

the demands of society. Formerly based in the Strait of Malacca, had the glory to N

be the main language in Aceh, Riau, Palembang, Borneo and others. The triumph

of the Melayu kingdom left the Malay manuscript which resulted and shaped the S G

strong literacy culture of the Malays. With cultural literacy, the Malay language

In fact, long before the Sumpah Pemuda, in fact Malay language was the language of unity in Indonesia. When people came to western Indonesia and saw that in every port, every person uses a language that almost all of them understand the

Malay language. 93 In fact, in many places such as in Bali, Kupan, North and Central Sulawesi there are also used local Malays to the conversation. 94 This fact influenced Pigafetta, a traveler maked a list of Malay syllables in the far eastern

region of the Malay homeland. 95

Malay language is also a pride to the wearer through the big traditions in history. In addition, the language has grown naturally from within the country and not a new effect which broughted by western colonial period. However, it had heavy duty as the language of unity, the Bahasa Indonesia can not rely only to the original language. It because Malay language used only as a liaison between the ethnic language, so there should be improvements in order to meet the language needs of the national perspective. Therefore, Bahasa Indonesia as we know now is the original Malay language which absorbed from various languages such as Dutch and English.
