2. Minimizing the strangeness of the foreign text

Since domestication strategy is meant to fall heavily on the target culture, the application of the strategy will minimize the strangeness felt by the readers when reading a translation text. The text is made up in such a way that the readers do not feel what they are reading is actually a translated text. Datum 53STCovT39b proves that when the translator do not apply domestication strategy and leaves a foreign element in the translated text, the result is not satisfactory because the readers find it difficult to comprehend. Some data are not domesticated so that foreign elements can be found. For the data not domesticated, all are considered quite readable by the readers. This means that the data which are not domesticated cannot be fully understood by the readers. The foreign elements are left translated. Since there is no foreign element, the translated text is more fluent and easier to understand. The readers do not have to find the meaning or look at notes or glossary at the end of the text. Datum no 3TTMT21a is considered readable because it enables to render the term dokar into ‘buggy’, which is equivalent. Applying domestication strategy will minimize foreign elements in the translated text. 49

CHAPTER V CONCLUSION

From the analysis on the previous chapter, it can be concluded that the domesticated translation applied in The Earth of Mankind gives some advantages, they are enabling the readers to comprehend the text easily and minimizing the strangeness of foreign text. It is proved from the data analysis that the domestication strategy has the following result: of 108 data, 60 data are accurate 56, 38 data are quite accurate 35, and only 10 data are not accurate 9. Meanwhile from readability aspect, 92 data are readable 85, 15 data are quite readable 14, and only 1 datum is not readable 1. The result shows that the domestication strategy sometimes is not quite successful in conveying the translation of ‘tool’ accurately 54. This can be understood that sometimes the replacement of source material with target material is considered not quite accurate since the materials not exactly the same. That is why quite accurate translation takes rather large percentage 35 because of that reason. Meanwhile, not accurate translation is only 9 which accounts for the misreplacement of the material or not domesticated at all. From readability aspects, a different result is achieved. Domestication strategy enables the term to be undertsood easily 85, and some 14 data are considered not quite readable because some foreign elements are still found. An insignificant percentage 1 accounts for unreadability.
