Findings of Cycle II
Ahmad 2013 states that in the audio-visual aids, both the listening ears and viewing faculties eyes are involved. Such aids include television programs,
video films, motion pictures, synchronized audio-slide projectors, computers and computer-assisted instructions and so on. Cartoon films are also a useful medium
for developing, and chiseling the skills of the students. Based on the interview, the students’ said that they got some improvements on their speaking skills by
watching the video. They knew the correct pronunciation and could use it on their dialogues. Even their fluency was also improved since they got more confidence
after they knew the correct pronunciation from the videos. The implementation of audio-visual aids videos and its supporting actions
including applying some communicative speaking tasks, using classroom English during the teaching and learning process, giving feedback on the students’ works,
giving handouts and giving rewards were successful in improving the students’ speaking skills of the class 8 C students of SMP Negeri 2 Sanden Bantul
Yogyakarta in the academic year 20142015. That finding could be inferred from the observation and the interviews with the English teacher and the students
during the research. Before the implementation of the actions, the students’ speaking skills were
assessed through pre-test on September 15
th
2014. The students had to perform a dialogue in pairs. Meanwhile, the post-test was carried out after the
implementation of the actions on October 10
th
2014. The students were asked to perform by acting out their own dialogue in front of the class. The table below
shows the comparison between the pre-test and post-test results in general.
