The mean of data above is 3. It means that all raters gave score 3 and assumed that the translation was inaccurate. It is clear that the translator did not translate that
address form at all. From the assessment, R2 said that it shouldn’t be deleted and
should be translated became Sebenarnya Bapa, itu karena tekanan udara panas
terhadap gravitasi…ilmu sihir. Here, I have the same opinion with the raters. The employment of the identity
group marker ‘Your Eminence’ helps Andolini as the speaker to convey the message more polite since his interlocutor is not only a bishop who has a high position in
Catholic Rome but also his master. The omission of the address form not only changes the formality of the utterance but also diminishes the strategy of the speaker, in this
case to establish sense of politeness and respect. Therefore, I agree with the suggestion of R2 to translate the form of address of ‘Your Eminence’ became Bapa in the TL.
B. Acceptability
The procedure to assess the acceptability of the translation of ‘Casanova’ is same with the procedure to assess the accuracy. The acceptability was assessed by the
same raters. The acceptability is measured based on three scales. Scale 1 is for acceptable translation, scale 2 is for less acceptable translation and scale 3 is for
unacceptable translation.
cxxviii After it had been calculated, it was divided into three classifications, as
follows: a. Acceptable, the mean score of the data included in this classification must cover
1.0 – 1.5 b. Less acceptable, covers the data which have the mean score between 1.6 – 2.5
c. Unacceptable, the data classified into this classification are those which have the mean score 2.6 – 3.00
To find out the overall data of acceptability of the translations in the film ‘Casanova’, the researcher applied the following calculation:

Based on the result of the questionnaires, I counted the average of the total mean of the acceptability as can be seen follows:

1.31 Based on the table above, from 330 data, 250 data 75.76 are acceptable
translation, 80 data 24.24 are less acceptable translation and there is no datum which belongs to unacceptable translation.
The total mean for the acceptability of the translation of the film ‘Casanova’
based on the result of the questionnaires is 1, 31. It indicates that the translation is nearly acceptable or natural because the category covers means score in
the range of 1 – 1, 5. Acceptable, represented by 1, it means that the use of the address form’s translation in the sentences is natural or has fulfilled the Indonesian society’s
cultural value. Meanwhile, the number of 0.31 means that the translation of the address forms into Indonesian is close to be acceptable or natural. This assessment is given by
seeing the context of situation of each data related to the dialogues occurred and the relationship of the participants within their different social status.
a. Acceptable
cxxx The acceptable translations are the translation which have the mean score from 1 –
1, 5. The data included in this classification are those, which sound natural and has fulfilled the Indonesian society’s cultural value. From 330 data, 250 data 75.76
are acceptable. Here are several data, which belong to this classification, Example 1:
SL: How can I help you, My dear? TL: Apa yang bisa kubantu, Anakku?
287CsvD234:27 In above example is found in one part of the movie in which Bishop Pucci
welcomed and offered a help to Victoria who felt hurt with Casanova. As seen, My dear
which refers to Victoria uttered by Bishop Pucci is translated into Anakku. The translation above is included in the acceptable category because it gets
score 1 from each raters. Here, I agree with the assessment of all the raters. In general, the term My dear is translated into Sayangku to show affection and love to someone.
However, based on the context of situation, the participants are between a bishop Bishop Pucci and his parish named Victoria. Therefore, the term Anakku is the most
appropriate translation for the address form My Dear to make it more natural in the TL.
Example 2:
SL: Perhaps you told us what we’re looking for. TL: Tuan bisa sebut seperti apa yang kita cari.

cxxxi The above example is found in one part of the movie in which Lupo confused
and asked Casanova what kind of woman his master looked for since every time Lupo choose a woman, Casanova always gave a bad comment and refused it. Here, Together
with his manservant, Lupo Salvato, Casanova searched for a wife. As seen, you which refers to Casanova uttered by Lupo is translated into Tuan.
Datum number 034 above is rated 1 by all of the raters which means acceptable for the TL. Here, I agree with the assessment of the raters because the strategy of
translating the term you into Tuan sounded natural and appropriate for the Indonesian society’s cultural values. In Indonesia, this term is used to address a person in different
social status and to show a great respect to the addressee. Here, the participants are between a manservant named Lupo and his master named Casanova. As the result of
the translation, I prefer to add the term Tuan became Tuan Muda to give more specific illustration about the interlocutor. Then, the subtitling will be, Tuan Muda bisa sebut
seperti apa yang kita cari .
b. Less Acceptable
There are 80 data 24.24 which belong to this classification. The data included here, are the less acceptable data, with the mean score between 1, 6 – 2, 5. The data are
considered less acceptable if the use of the address form’s translation in the sentence is less natural or have less fulfilled the Indonesian society’s cultural value. It can be
known by seeing the context of situation and the relationship between addresser and addressee. Below are the examples,
Example 1:
SL: Master Guardi. Can you make me look like him?

TL: Tuan Guardi. Kau bisa membuatku seperti itu?
164CsvD202:11 The above example is found in one part of the movie in which Lord Papprizio
asked Bernardo Guardi to make over his appearance to be slimmer just like in the picture. Here, Lord Papprizio is a rich merchant that came from Genoa. As seen,
Master Guardi and you which refers to Casanova who at that time pretends as Guardi
uttered by Lord Papprizio is translated into Tuan Guardi and kau. For the datum above, all raters gave score 2. It means that the translation of the
address form is less acceptable. Actually, there is no problem for the translation of the first address form in the sentence Master Guardi is translated into Tuan Guardi.
However, the translation of the second one that makes the translation is less acceptable. As R3 said that the term you which is translated into kau is not parallel
with the form Tuan. Meanwhile, R1 and R2 said that it should be translated into Tuan. Here, I agree with the opinion and suggestion of all the raters. It will be more natural
and appropriate if the term you is translated into Tuan or Anda to respect the addressee since the participants have a distant relationship. In Indonesia, the term Kau is only
used if the participants have an intimate relationship. Therefore, the translation will be, Tuan Guardi. Tuan bisa membuatku seperti itu?
Example 2:
SL: Signore, Bishop Pucci wishes to see you. TL: Signor, Uskup Pucci ingin bertemu.

cxxxiii The above example is found in one part of the movie in which Andolini,
Pucci’s servant, pushes Casanova to follow him to come to bishop Pucci’s office for an investigation purpose. As seen, signore which refers to Bishop Pucci uttered by
Andolini is translated into Signor. The mean of the datum number 203 is 2.33. For the datum above, R1 and R2
gave score 2 since they assumed that translation version is less acceptable while R3 gave 3 assumed that it is unacceptable at all since the subtitler still maintain the Italian
term Signor in the TL. All raters agreed if the term Signor should be translated into Tuan
since that term is uncommon for Indonesian audience. However, here, I have my own opinion. Basically, I agree with the suggestion of the raters but, not all the term is
translated into Indonesian since the purpose of using this term in the TL is to bring the audience to the cultural nuances of movie’s background. Therefore, I prefer to keep the
term as the original ones and add a note after the term, such as Signore Tuan. However, considering the limitation of the space of screen for subtitle, it is better to
put this note only in some translation of the dialogues especially in the beginning and middle of the film. It is very useful for the target audience to understand this term.
A little note, actually there is a mistaken application of the term Signore in the translation version. Here, the subtitler transferred the term Signore in SL became
Signor only in the TL. It’s wrong because in Italian term of title, there is a different
meaning between Signore and Signor. The term Signore is used to address a highly respected man or a man of advanced age; it is equivalent to English Sir. Besides, the
term Signore is used separately without followed by name. Meanwhile, the form Signor
should be followed by last name. Therefore, if the subtitler decided to maintain
cxxxiv the original term, heshe should transferred it into the same form. As the result of the
analysis, the translation version will be, Signore Tuan, Uskup Pucci ingin bertemu.
c. Unacceptable
There is no datum, which belongs to this classification.
