lxii The consideration to take the film as the source of data is because it is interesting
to study the translation of the address forms since it has an important part in contributing to the enjoyment of the viewers. Besides, this film is inspired partially
from the autobiography of Giacomo Girolamo Casanova, a famous Venetian adventurer, writer and womanizer.
C. Method of Data Collection
This research employed some methods to collect the data as follows: 1.
Content analysis In this research, I carried out content analysis by
· Watching the film “Casanova” and comparing the original dialogues
and the subtitling dealing with address forms expression. ·
Transcribing the dataoriginal dialogues dealing with address forms expression from the film into the form of dialogues list manually.
· Re-writing the Indonesian subtitle dealing with address forms
expression in the film “Casanova” manually.
· Giving marks to each dialogue containing address forms.
· Making notes of the context of situation in the transcript of the
dialogues containing address forms. 2.
Questionnaire The questionnaire consists of two types; open and close format.
The open format questionnaire is for the respondent’s comment dealing with the accuracy and the acceptability of the translation. Here, the raters may give
their opinion whether the words are accurate and acceptable or not.
lxiii In close format, the questionnaire is a scaled questionnaire, in which the raters
should give scales. This type is used to assess the accuracy and the acceptability of the address forms translation by using scales with three levels.
The levels of scale for accuracy are: 1=accurate, 2=less accurate, 3=inaccurate
These three levels are adapted from the scale for accuracy from Tsuji and Nakamura in Nababan, 2004.
Table 3.1 The Scale of Accuracy of Tsuji and Nakamura Scale
Of Accuracy Description
1 = Accurate If the meaning of the address form of the source language is translated accurately into the target language. The translated
version is clearly understood and any rewriting is not needed. Besides meaning, the accuracy is also related to the correctness of
the address forms are destined.
2 = Less Accurate
If the meaning of the address form of the source language is translated less accurate into the target language. Therefore, some
rewritings are needed. 3 =
Inaccurate If the meaning of the address form of the source language is
translated inaccurately into the target language. Therefore, some rewritings are needed.
The levels of scale of acceptability are: 1=acceptable, 2=less acceptable, 3=unacceptable
The scales of acceptability can be seen as follow, Table 3.2 The Scale of Acceptability of Tsuji and Nakamura
Scale Description
1 = Acceptable
If the translation of the address form has fulfilled the values of Indonesian culture. It can be seen from the context of situation
and the participants of each dialog.
2 = Less Acceptable
If the translation of the address form has less fulfilled the values of the Indonesian culture. It can be seen from the context of
situation and the participants of each dialog.
lxiv 3 =
Unacceptable If the translation of the address form hasn’t fulfilled the values of
the Indonesian culture at all. It can be seen from the context of situation and the participants of each dialog.
Based on the theory of Tsuji and Nakamura above, I then re-formulate the scale of accuracy based on the reliable data as follows:
Table 3.3 The Scale of Accuracy Based on The Reliable Data Score
Accuracy Explanation
1 Accurate
If the meaning of the address form in the sentence from the source language to the target language is translated exactly and
can be fully understood without any rewriting. Beside the meaning, exactly here also related to the correctness of the
address form is for.

source language to the target language is translated less exactly and needed to be rewrote since the choice of word is not
correct.
3 Inaccurate

accurately and needed to be rewrote.
