Upper floret hermaphrodite; lemma 2.2 mm long, indurated, boat-shaped, 3-nerved with an acute point; palea 2 mm long, similar textured, pointed, 2-keeled, smooth. Anthers 3, 1 mm long. Stigmata 2. Caryopsis with adherent pericarp, 1.5 mm long. Notes Found in Western and Eastern Asia, India, Indo-China, Malesia, and Australia. Distribution North: Tomohon, Alt. 700 m. South: Sengkang; Pare-pare. Syst. 331: 48. 1902. Plants perennial, rhizomatous. Culms 40-85 cm long, slender, glaucous, creeping and rooting at the base, cataphyll from a basal nodal ring of hairs, erect part many-leaved. Nodes glabrous; internodes hollow. Sheaths 6 cm, tranverse nerves present, long-ciliate along outer margin, Ligule 0.6 mm long, a ciliate membrane. Blades 10 cm long by 6 mm long, shortly linear-acuminate, inrolled when dry, with scattered hairs on the upper surface, rounded base and acute tip. Inflorescence an opened panicle, 8-18 cm long, branches ascending, primaries and secondaries flattened, tertiaries and lower order branches angular, capillary, with margins scabrid. Spikelets 3 mm long, narrowly eliptic, acute and usually gaping at the tip; comprising 1 basal sterile florets, 1 fertile florets, without rachilla extension, dorsally compressed, 3 mm long, falling entire. Glumes dissimilar, reaching apex of florets. Lower glume 0.8 mm long, clasping the spikelet and truncate, hyaline, 3-nerved, no keels; lateral nerves absent. Upper glume 3 mm long, ovate-acute, 7-nerved, membraneous, no keels; apex acute. Florets: basal sterile florets male, with palea; lemma similar to upper glume, 7-nerved, membraneous, acute. Fertile lemma oblong, dorsally compressed, 2.5 mm long, indurate, shiny, no keel; margins involute, apex obtuse; palea involute, indurate. Stamens 3. Stigmata 2.
