Plants perennial, erect, with stilt root on the base of culm. Culms c. 100 cm long, thick 1 mm long or less, solid, branching of the culm intravaginal. Nodes glabrous, the lower part with stilt root, the upper part covered by sheats; internodes up to 14 cm long, glabrous. Sheaths 2 – 5 cm long, glabrous. Ligule membraneus, translucent, 1 mm long. Blades 6 – 9 cm by 0.8 - 1.1 cm, margin sligthly serulate, base cuneate, apex acuminate, the surface with scatered hair 1.5 mm long, the lower scabrous. Inflorescence 3 – 5 cm long, composed of racemes; raceme digitate; rachis fragile at the nodes, ciliate on margins, internodes cuneate. Spikelets in pairs, fertile spikelets sessile and pedicelled, 2 in the cluster; pedicels cuneate, ciliate; sessile spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets, 1 fertile florets, without rachilla extension, elliptic, laterally compressed, falling entire, decidous from the base, callus base obtuse, attached transversely. Glumes dissimilar, firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume elliptic, as long as spikelet, chartaceus, primary nerved ciliate, abaxial side with a longitudinal median groove, apex acute. Upper glume elliptic, chartaceus, 3-nerved, apex dentate, bifid, awned. Florets, basal sterile florets male, with palea; lemma absent; palea membraneous, pilose, adorned on flanks; fertile lemma linear, hyaline, without keel, apex dentate, bifid, awned; principal lemma awn from a sinus, geniculate, with twisted column. Palea obovate, hyaline, abaxial side pilose, hairy on the flanks. Anthers 3, 1.8 mm long. Notes Found in Indo-China. Distribution at Sulawesi South: Bantimoeroeng, tusschen Makasser en Maros, Alt. 20 m. Habitat Specimen examined Steenis 10413 BO.
