Culms c. 70 cm long, 2 mm thick, stout, hollow, decumbent and rooting freely at lower nodes, leafy almost to the inflorescens. Nodes glabrous; internodes c. 17 cm long, glabrous. Sheaths c. 10 cm long, fairly loose, glabrous except for the bearded nodes. Ligule c. 3 mm long, a distinct membrane fused with the auricles. Blades c. 22 cm by 10 mm, margin smooth, base cuneate, apex acuminate, the surface hairy on the both side. Inflorescence c. 10.5 cm long, well exserted of 2, 3 or more racemes. Spikelets c. 10 mm long, arranged in pairs: fertile spikelets sessile, 1 in cluster; companion sterile spikelets pedicelled, 1 in the cluster. Pedicels and the internode about the same length c. 3 mm long. Fertile spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets, 1 fertile florets, without rachilla extension; lanceolate, or oblong, 4-7 mm long, dorsally compressed, falling entire; callus oblong, 1-1.5 mm long, bearded, base obtuse, inserted. Sterile spikelets: companion sterile well-developed, containing empty lemmas, or male, elliptic, 4-7 mm long, laterlly compressed, as long as fertile, separately deciduous; glumes chartaceous, keeled, 7-9- nerved, muticous; lemmas 2, enclosed by glumes, 1-awned. Glumes dissimilar, reaching apex of florets, firmer than fertile lemma.
