Plants perennial, procumbent and rooting freely at the nodes. Culms 15- 50 cm long. Nodes bearded. Sheaths pilose, with tubercle-based hairs, outer margins hairy.
Ligule a fringe of hairs. Blades 2-6 cm by 4-12 mm, margin cartilaginous, apex acute, or acuminate, the surface pilose, sparsely hairy, with tubercle-based hairs.
Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open, ovaye, 2-10 cm long. Spikelets solitary: fertile spikelets pedicelled. Fertile spikelets comprising 2 fertile florets, without rachilla
extension; elliptic, or obovate, 2-3.5 mm long, dorsally compressed, breaking up at maturity, disarticulating below each fertile floret. Glumes similar, deciduous, reaching
apex of florets, thinner than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, or ovate, 1.8-3.2 mm long, membraneous, no keels, 5-nerved; surface hispidulous, hairy above, apex
acuminate. Upper glume lanceolate, or avate, 2-2.5 mm long, as long as spikelet, membraneous, no keel; surface setose, hairy above; apex attenuate. Florets: fertile
lemma lanceolate, or ovate, 2-3.5 mm long, chartaceous, no keel; margin involute, apex acuminate. Palea chartaceous, 2-nerved. Anthers 3. Caryopsis with adherent
