Andropogon diplandrus Hack. Stapf. Flora 687: 123. 1885. Andropogon eberhardtii A. Camus Merr. Lingnan Sci. J. 51-2: 27. 1927; Kew Bull., Addit. Ser. 2: 1-196. 1969. Andropogon obscurus K. Schum. Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 243: 330. 1897. Andropogon osikensis Franch., Bull. Soc. Hist. Nat. Autun 8: 332. 1895. Andropogon phoenix Rendle K. Schum. Just’s Bot. Jahresber. 271. 1901. Plants perennial, caespitose. Culms 200-300 cm long, erect, robust. Sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligules 1-2 mm long, an eciliate membrane. Blades 20-60 cm by 3-10 mm, the surface glabrous, or hirsute, sparsely hairy. Inflorescence: synflorescence compound; paniculate, 20-40 cm long. Inflorescence composed of racemes, terminal and axillary, subtended by a spatheole, enclosed. Spatheole lanceolate, 2-4.5 cm long, membraneous, glabrous. Peduncle 3-15 mm long. Racemes 2, paired, deflexed, 1.5-2 cm long, bearing few fertile spikelets, bearing 2-3 fertile spikelets on each. Rachis fragile at the nodes, ciliate on the margins. Raceme-bases flattened, subequal, 1-2 mm long, pubescent. Spikelets appressed, in pairs: fertile spikelets sessile, 1 in the cluster; companion sterile spikelets pedicelled, 1 in the cluster. Pedicels linear. Fertile spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets, 1 fertile florets, without rhachilla extension; lanceolate, 6-8 mm long, dorsally compressed, falling entire; callus cuneate, 1.5 mm long, pubescent, base acute, attached obliquely. Sterile spikelets: basal sterile spikelets well-developed, on lower raceme 4 in number, 4 in upper raceme, forming an involucre about the fertile, 7-9 mm long, lanceolate, larger than fertile; glumes scabrous on margins. Glumes dissimilar, exceeding apex of florets, firmer than fertile lemma. Lower glume lanceolate, as long as spikelet, coriaceous, without keels; apex dentate, bifid. Upper glume linear, coriaceous, without keels. Florets: basal sterile florets barren, without significant palea; lemma lanceolate, as long as fertile lemma, hyaline, 2-nerved. Fertile lemma linear, membraneous, without keel, 1-nerved; apex dentate, bifid, 1-awned; principal awn from a sinus, 20-55 mm long, geniculate, with twisted column. Palea absent, or minute. Lodicules 2, cuneate, fleshy. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2. Notes Found in West tropical Africa, China, Indo-China, and Malesia. Distribution Celebes. Habitat Speciemen examined Eyma 1220, 1468 BO.
