Inflorescence 10-30 cm long, an opened panicle, with branches tipped by a raceme. Primary panicle branches whorled at most nodes, 2-5 cm long; flexuous. Racemes bearing few fertile spikelets, 2-4 fertile spikelets on each. Rachis fragile at the nodes, ciliate on margins; red hairy. Spikelets appressed, in pairs: fertile spikelets sessile, 1 in the cluster; companion sterile spikelets pedicelled, 1 in the cluster. Pedicels filiform, ciliate. Fertile spikelets comprising 1 basal sterile florets, 1 fertile florets, without rachilla extension; ovate, 3- 4.5 mm long, dorsally compressed, acute, falling entire; callus bearded, base obtuse, hairs red. Glumes dissimilar, exceeding apex of florets, firmer than fertile lemma, shiny. Lower glume ovate, as long as spikelet, coriaceous, no keels; surface pubescent, hairy above; hairs red; apex acute. Upper glume ovate, coriaceous, no keels; surface pubescent; apex acute. Florets: basal sterile florets barren, without significant palea; lemma lanceolate, hyaline, 2-nerved, ciliate on margins, acute. Fertile lemma ovate, hyaline, 1-nerved; margins ciliate; apex dentate, bifid, muticuous, 1-awned; principal lemma awn from a sinus, 7-17 cm long, geniculate, with twisted glabrous column. Palea absent. Lodicules 2, oblong, fleshy, ciliate. Anthers 3. Stigmas 2, laterally exserted. Caryopsis with adherent pericarp.
