Three translation strategies are found in this datum. They are,
i. Transposition
The first strategy applied is transposition. It can be seen in the first clause, and when her lips met mine, which translated into dan saat bibirnya
bertemu dengan bibirku, the phrase her lips becomes bibirnya in the TT. This strategy is chosen since the sentence structure in the TT is placing the head of
the phrase before the possessive pronoun. The transposition strategy is also applied in the sentence when I first
kissed the girl of my dreams, which translated into ketika aku mencium gadis impianku untuk pertama kalinya. The word first in the ST is placed after the
subject I, but in the TT, it is in the last part of the sentence, so it becomes the final explanation about the kissing which has happened in that plot of the story.
The word first is placed in the end of the sentence because it is more proper and ordered in the TT, instead of ketika aku pertama kali mencium gadis impianku.
ii. Addition Structural
Addition strategy is applied in the same clause as the previous strategy, which is and when her lips met mine and becomes dan saat bibirnya bertemu
dengan bibirkuin the TT. This strategy is applied to translate the word mine which becomes bibirku. The TT has the additional word bibir to explain
whatmine is in the ST in order to deliver a clear translation, instead of translating this clause into saat bibirnya bertemu dengan milikku, which will confuse the
TT readers.
iii. Omission
According to Suryawinata and Hariyanto, omission is omitting or deleting a word or a part of the ST in the TT. This strategy is done because the
translator thinks that certain words is not so important or influential to the whole sentence 2003:75. In the datum above, we can see omission strategy in
the clause nothing would ever compare to that single moment, which becomes tidak akan ada yang bisa menandingi momen. The phrase single moment in the
ST is only translated into momen in the TT. It is because the word single is aimed to emphasize the one and only moment which considered special by John.
