CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD
3.1 Research Design
This research is about the equivalence of the patterns of the logical meanings between the ST and TT. It concerns with an object which is considered
as multiple realities. According to Lincoln Guba 1985: 40, a study concerning with an object as multiple realities is categorized as a qualitative research. The
multiple realities which are explored in this research include three components of the object. The first component is the patterns of the logical meanings which are
represented by the clause complexes in the ST. The second one is the realization of the patterns of the logical meanings from the ST into the TT which is
considered as a translation process. The third one is the functional equivalence between the ST and TT. The three components which are explored as a single
object, i.e. the patterns of the logical meanings of the ST, the translation process of the patterns of the logical meanings from the ST into the TT, and the
equivalence of the patterns of the logical meanings between the ST and the TT define the type of this research into a qualitative design with an object as multiple
realities. The components of the object in this research are studied based on
multiple analytical frameworks because each of them is seen from different perspectives, but they belong to the area of one object. Here, the patterns of the
logical meanings are explored based on the transitivity system and logico-

logical meanings of the ST into the TT is conducted based on the model of Bottom-up translation approach. The analysis of functional equivalence between
the patterns of the logical meanings between the ST and TT is conducted based on the functional equivalence theory, transitivity system and logico-semantic relation
theory of SFG. The road map of the research process conducted in this study indicates that the arrow “→” symbolizes the analysis of the patterns of the logical
meanings of the ST and TT, the arrow “↔” symbolizes the translation process and the analysis of the functional equivalence of the patterns of the logical meanings
between the ST and TT. Diagram 4: Translation Research Road Map
