The sample was selected by purposive sampling. collecting data using interview, observation and documentation as well as secondary data from various sources. Based on the data required synergy between persons with mental retardation with various local communities. Aspects learned in supporting the process of social legitimacy with mental retardation: the individual characteristics in giving name, support parenting from both parents, and the implementation of the social functions of the family.
